Dr Tom Bloomfield

Dr Tom Bloomfield is a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic and complex pain conditions. He is Clinical Lead for Pain Services at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads the development and delivery of specialist pain services across the Trust. Alongside his NHS practice, he is a co-founder of Wessex Pain Clinic, providing expert private care to patients from across Hampshire and the wider UK.

Dr Bloomfield graduated with First Class Honours in Medical Sciences from the University of Oxford before completing his medical degree with a Clinical Distinction at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, London. He is a Fellow of both the Faculty of Pain Medicine and the Royal College of Anaesthetists and has received awards for clinical practice, teaching and research throughout his career.

He assesses and treats the full spectrum of persistent pain conditions, including back and neck pain, sciatica, nerve pain, fibromyalgia, migraine, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), pelvic pain and persistent pain following surgery. His practice combines careful diagnosis with evidence-based treatment, ensuring patients understand both the cause of their pain and the full range of available management options.

Where appropriate, Dr Bloomfield offers advanced image-guided pain interventions, including spinal injections, radiofrequency denervation, peripheral nerve blocks and neuromodulation techniques. He works closely with physiotherapists, psychologists, spinal surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and other specialists to ensure every patient receives an individualised treatment plan.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Bloomfield has a longstanding interest in improving healthcare through innovation. He was selected for the inaugural NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme and continues to develop new ways of using technology, including artificial intelligence, digital health and virtual reality, to improve diagnosis, patient education and the experience of living with chronic pain.

Dr Bloomfield is actively involved in teaching doctors and other healthcare professionals and believes that high quality pain management should combine scientific evidence with clear communication and genuinely personalised care. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in understanding their condition and making informed decisions about treatment.

Whether providing reassurance, offering a second opinion or delivering advanced interventional pain management, his aim is to help patients regain function, improve quality of life and return to the activities that matter most to them.
